A letter to parents about changes for 2014 - 2015
News @ AWA
Ava White Academy would like to announce several new partnerships formed this school year.
We are lucky to have Windy Bedford of Brenau University to add to our team. Wendy is completing her Master's in Counseling at Brenau. The University has partnered with AWA to provide counseling services to the students. We welcome Windy to our team and are excited to see how she helps our students continue to grow to be the best!
Our students have been asked by the North Georgia History Museum, located on 322 Academy St. NE,Gainesville, to create a student friendly guide through the museum. The teachers and students have worked hard to come up with four fun, engaging and educational activities for kids to navigate through the museum. When visiting the museum please take a look at the tags made by Gail Jones' class. Theses sentences will tell you from a students view the best exhibits at the museum. For an adventure, play the I SPY game or go on a Scavenger Hunt created by Mrs. Marie's and Mrs. Maura's class. Go back in time to WWI and WWII. Imagine what the soldiers were thinking, and what their families were feeling. Look for the post cards placed on these war exhibits written by the students in Mrs. Susan's class. If technology is what you are into, check out the virtual tour of the log cabin area created by our high school students. Mrs. Holly's class did a fantastic job linking certain tools used during that time period to your technology device to find out more information about a certain piece.
Our final partnership is one that all of our students have not only learned from, but have gained great self-confidence as well as exercise and just had great fun. We are excited to be working with Rising Sun Martial Arts, off of Thompson Bridge Road in the Publix shopping center.Tim and Lydia Meeks agreed to come to AWA every Tuesday and Thursday to teach our students martial arts. This is a great opportunity to allow our students to be a part of a team as well as work on their individual strengths. By working together we show that not only can every child learn but every child can Do!
We appreciate all of the agencies who have partnered with us.
Together we open the doors of opportunity for students at Ava White Academy.
